The Incurious Case of George Zimmerman

Domestic violence, aggravated assault, intimidation, and road rage are pretty much what you get when a killer is let loose on the streets. But we all knew this would happen, right?

Almost two years ago, the world tuned in to the trial of George Zimmerman. There was intense media coverage on the neighborhood watch who shot and killed an unarmed African American teenager, Trayvon Martin.

Throughout the trial, Zimmerman’s defense attorneys portrayed the victim, Mr. Martin, as the aggressor whose death was inevitable because their client was in “fear of his life”. Zimmerman was found to have pursued Mr. Martin, in spite of receiving instructions by police not to do so. Nonetheless, he was acquitted – found not guilty of second degree murder.

Most people who are acquitted of murder would try their best to stay out of the limelight and out of trouble, but not George Zimmerman! He defies those expectations.

A couple of months after the trial, he was involved in a domestic violence dispute with his wife, her father, and you guessed it……..a gun!

Two months after that, his girlfriend reported that he pointed a gun at her and destroyed her belongings. Earlier this year, he was arrested and charged with aggravated assault for throwing a wine bottle at his ex-girlfriend.

The former neighborhood watched landed again in the headlines because he was shot by Matthew Apperson, a man he has had a contentious relationship with, going back three years. According to Mr. Apperson, Zimmerman was waving his gun at him and threatened to kill him. Mr. Apperson felt that he had to shoot at Zimmerman first to protect himself. And this all happens while the two are driving down a busy street. Zimmerman suffered only minor injuries.

Are we really be surprised by Zimmerman’s actions? I think most people, including the jurors, concluded that Mr. Martin’s death could have been prevented. Zimmerman has proven time and again that he is a menace to society. Yet a 17-year-old boy’s character was misrepresented and he never received the justice he deserved. The truth, however, always comes out!

And now we are all seeing George Zimmerman for who he really is: a cold-blooded killer.
